Were the Celts pagans?
Paganism IS multiple religions. It never was, and never will be, one single religion, so yes the Celts were pagans, but no they did not worship in the same way that Roman pagans, Greek pagans, or Norse pagans worshiped. The Celts followed the Celtic pantheon and practiced Druidry. There are modern Druids and Celtic Pagans, but at best, their religion is a reconstruction of the Celtic beliefs. They do not truly follow the same religion of the ancient Celts, although they get pretty close. The pentacle is not specifically Celtic in origin, and only has associations in anything resembling Celtic traditions because of its use in Wicca. The Celts used symbols that were variations of knot-like designs and spirals. The pentacle has Greek, Babylonian, Roman, and Egyptian origins and was later used in Christianity and even later in modern Paganism, but it really had no place in ancient Celtic paganism.
