What happened to Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown?
No hard feelings. I don’t think ‘Brown’ stacks up to ‘Fiction’ at all, and that opinion is not on the basis of the dialogue in the two movies. I enjoy ‘Pulp Fiction’ for much, much more than just dialogue, and I think ‘Brown’ is an example of Tarantino going with the popular feedback that his “witty” dialogue is what carries his movies, while for me that is not the case; so we have a movie with the same type of dialogue, but not nearly as entertaining of a show. I think he milks a one-note formula of stylized dialogue and pastiche, without much regard to the overall quality of the product… that is why I find his movies to be very “hit-and-miss”, I’ve only liked three of them (Fiction, Kill Bill, and to a lesser extent, Reservoir Dogs).
