What is the picture mode doing differently than the other one?

no you will not get the same picture through the different modes if you set the settings the same…..the reason will be because of the hidden settings in the service menus of the tv. For example, vivid mode will have a completely different gamma settings, red, green and blue saturation levels would also be different in all of the service menus for each of the picture settings (vivid, cinema, dynamic etc), which means that you would never be able to recreate the vivid look on the cinema setting unless you went into the service menu and changed the settings in those menus to be the same for vivid and cinema….
