What if the Iraqi government collapses?
teknimage Dec 10th, 2006 Your question assumes the Iraqi government is in a position to collapse. I don’t think that government has ever been in such a place. It is being propped up only through the US military’s continued presence. If we were to leave now, there would be even more chaos and death and destruction than we’ve already witnessed. This indicates that the Iraqi government is a government in name only. This may not always be the situation, but currently, I believe it is. If the Iraqi government cannot take control and responsibility of its citizens and their needs, and ALL of its citizens, not just those of the Muslim sects it chooses to represent and accept, it will never be a valid government.
