What is DLAP?
DLAP stands for the Diversified Liberal Arts Program. DLAP is not a major, but an undergraduate specialization that focuses on preparing prospective California elementary school teachers. This specialization IS NOT the same as a teaching credential. To earn an elementary teaching credential, you must first receive an undergraduate degree. Then, students typically complete an accredited credential program offered through a graduate school of education. DLAP prepares prospective elementary school teachers to enter a graduate credential program by having them demonstrate subject matter competency in the areas commonly taught in California elementary schools. DLAP affords the student an opportunity to acquire a general liberal arts education which will be noted on the student’s transcript and diploma, and is a way to bolster preparation for applying to graduate credential programs leading to teaching positions for grades K-6.
