What is mystical psychosis?
Arthur J. Deikman, professor of psychiatry at University of California, San Francisco, described the psychiatric syndrome of “mystical psychosis” to characterize first-person accounts of psychotic experiences that are strikingly similar to reports of mystical experiences. According to this view, psychotic experience need not be considered pathological, especially if consideration is given to the values and beliefs of the individual concerned. The term “first episode mystical psychosis” refers to the first time a person experiences a mysticalpsychosis.
