What is policy-based management?
Policy-based management is a system in which data center administrators create rules that govern resource allocation. This allows managers to move out of “firefighting mode” and into a more thoroughly planned usage of resources. As an example, rules can be constructed that allow mission critical applications to take over computing resources from less important applications. In this way, a revenue essential billing query can be automatically prioritized over less time-dependent actions. Such policies ensure that resources are used most effectively and without personal intervention by an administrator.
