What is the application process?
Persons receiving assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program automatically receive services from the CSED. Persons not receiving TANF must complete an application form. Applications are available at our Regional Child Support Offices, County Department of Social Services Offices and County Clerks of Court Offices. An application can also be obtained by calling the CSED toll-free number 1-800-768-5858 or downloaded from our Forms and Documents page. Do child support services cost anything? The CSED charges a non-refundable $25.00 application fee. Persons receiving TANF assistance do not have to pay this fee. Notice: As part of the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act passed by Congress, beginning October 1, 2007, all applicants who have never received public assistance (AFDC/TANF) will be charged a $25.00 fee each year after $500.00 in child support has been collected and paid out. The application process is described in the M.Ed. Prospective Student Handbook (pages 12 – 18). First, you must submit an application to the Texas Tech University Graduate School which you can do on-line. Then you need to submit your Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores and official transcripts of all college work to the Graduate School. Submit the Program Application Form (from the Handbook), the Applicant Statement, and Acknowledgment forms to the Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Research at the College of Education. You will also need to supply three recommendations from professors and/or employers/supervisors. For Medical, Dental, Optometry, Podiatry, Physician Assistant, and a number of other programs: An application to medical school and the other programs listed is basically completed on two levels. You start with a primary application that is completed online through an application service (see below). Each system asks for demographic information; a listing of extracurricular activities, honors, and research; a listing of every course ever taken (including those that were red-lined) and the grade earned (which is matched with your transcript); and an essay about why you want to work in that field. The application is tedious to fill out and takes considerable time, you can, however, save portions and come back to it so it does not have to be completed in one sitting. There is a fee for submitting the application. The application services (AMCAS & AACOMAS, etc.) will check your transcripts (which you have sent to them) against the information you submitted. Since private student loans are credit based, the loan approval process starts with a credit check. You need to apply with a co-signer. When you apply with a cosigner, you will be informed right away if you and your cosigner are credit approved. After you and your cosigner have completed the application, and been credit approved, you will have to provide proof of enrollment or in some cases, school verification of the loan amount. This is verification that you are enrolled and that the loan amount is in line with your expected cost of attendance. Once this is completed you and your cosigner will receive a final approval notification which will include important information about your loan, including the date(s) funds will be sent.
