What is the difference between the Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal?
The Anti-Discrimination Commission has responsibility for handling complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment and racial and religious vilification in the first instance. We do this by: • Investigating complaint of unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment and racial and religious vilification • Settlement of complaints through conciliation • Raising awareness through information, education and training about human rights, discrimination and sexual harassment • Conducting research in relation to human rights issues • Consultations with various organisations, particularly in regard in finding ways to improve services and conditions affecting people who are subject to unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment and racial and religious vilification. The Anti-Discrimination Tribunal hears complaints of discrimination which have been referred to it by the Anti-Discrimination Commission. It operates in a similar way to a Court.
