What is the drinking age in Mexico?

0

Eighteen (18) for all citizens and visitors to Mexico. You must have valid ID in the form of a passport or driver’s license. Mexico has strict laws about drinking in public and public drunkeness, so don’t use the lower drinking age as an excuse to forget your common sense.

The legal drinking age in Mexico is 18, but this generally is not enforced unless you are seen drinking in public. Reputable establishments will not serve you, if they suspect you are under age. Under age persons who seek out seedy establishments in the hopes of being served, should understand there is danger in that behavior.

Twenty years ago, the laws were rarely enforced, but times have changed. Regardless of what you have heard, do not believe you will stay out of trouble by offering a bribe to an official. Those days have also passed, because today, many law enforcement officers do not take bribes. Now, you must  be 18 to purchase cigarettes or alcohol. Mexico also enforces its traffic and seat belt laws.

I’ve always heard if you can reach the bar, your old enough to drink. But the actual legal age is 18.

They’ll serve you. I’m not sure of the exact drinking age but I went when I was 17 and got served in every bar. I didn’t look older either. No one asks for ID there. Have a good time!
