What will happen at the initial examination appointment?

A. Upon arriving at Dr. Ginsberg’s office each patient and parent will be greeted and asked to fill out a patient information paper that includes some personal information and a brief medical history. Dr. Ginsberg will conduct a brief but thorough examination of the patient’s mouth to determine if there is a need for orthodontic treatment. He will be looking to determine if there is enough room to hold all of your teeth, if the top teeth are lined up correctly with the bottom teeth, if any teeth are crooked or not growing in the right position, and if there are missing or extra teeth. He will also be asking the patient if they are experiencing any breathing problems, if they have had any finger or tongue habits, and if they have experienced any jaw joint problems.

Upon arriving, each patient will be asked for the new patient forms and insurance card. The doctor will then complete a thorough clinical exam. Additional information, such as X-rays or photographs, may be needed for proper diagnosis.

Upon arriving each patient and parent will be seen by one of our Treatment Coordinators who will acclamate you to our clinic and prepare for the initial exam. Necessary photographs and x-rays will be taken to allow the orthodontist to make a proper diagnosis. A brief but thorough exam will then be completed by the orthodontist. Building a comfortable and trusting relationship with the orthodontist and staff is a significant goal of our initial exam.

The first appointment is actually very easy. Dr. Crock’s staff will collect all necessary health and insurance information, after which Dr. Crock will perform a comprehensive orthodontic and TMJ evaluation. Dr. Crock will explain the positive and negative aspects of your malocclusion and any treatment that might be indicated. To read more about your first visit, see our First Visit Page.
