There are many applications on computers that do not run if the computer is on battery power to conserve battery power. When you restore AC power programs such as Windows Update, antivirus/antispyware programs and application updaters such as Java, InstallSheild and Adobe run. I suggest that you look at your Task Manager, sort by CPU usage and see what happens when you remove and restore AC power. Hopefully, this will give you an idea of what program process is causing the performance loss. Aside from that you could us MSCONFIG to disable applications and services until you find the culprit.
