New Disney Resort Hotel to Open in 2012
Today plans were announced to add a new Disney resort hotel – the 26th of its kind – to the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista. The new Art of Animation Resort will become Disney’s fifth Value Resort and will be located in the Wide World of Sports Resort area next to Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
The official Disney parks blog confirmed that plans to add a "Legendary Years" section to the Pop Century Resort have been scrapped and that the new Art of Animation Resort will take its place.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will feature four themed sections based on popular animated Disney movies: The Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid. According to a press release, the new Disney resort "will be one-of-a-kind, with themed building exteriors and room interiors, and larger-than-life icons from the animated films in the courtyard areas."
Of the 2,000 rooms planned for the resort, more than 1,100 will be family suites like those currently available at the All-Star Music Resort. The family suites will be located in The Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo buildings, while the remaining non-suite rooms will be located in The Little Mermaid buildings.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is scheduled to open in phases and will be completely operational by the end of 2012.
