  1. MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) are likely some of the most popular online games, perhaps second only to FPSs (First Person Shooters).

MMORPGs usually consist of a large, interactive world or setting in which players from around the world play at the same time in the same place and are able to socialize and interact together. Fantasy MMORPGs are the most popular type.

Like most classic RPGs (Role Playing Games), the player assumes the role of a character or avatar to represent his or herself in the online world. When offline, the world continues to be active with other players.

The most popular MMORPG to date is known as the World of Warcraft, created and developed by Activision Blizzard. The game had record of almost 12 million subscribers as of December 2008.

Most MMORPGs consist of character customization, such as facial features, clothing, and hair color. They also consist of player progression and development, whether through obtaining skills or spells, or even new shiny armor.

Some MMORPGs even have their own economy in-game. The economy, such as the one in the World of Warcraft, often works and reacts like real-world economies. Prices drop and rise depending on supply and demand.

MMORPGs continue to rise in popularity throughout the years and soon may control the video game world.
