  1. Organizing a kid’s room can be one of the most daunting tasks you’ll ever undertake. In order to maximize the space in a kid’s room, you have to be creative. Kid’s rooms are notoriously small, so it will take some work on your part to overcome the confines of the space. With the help of these tips, you and your child will both love the space you design!

    • Buy Smart Furniture. When choosing furniture for your child’s room, make it do double duty! Bunkbeds are a popular choice for this. There are so many bunk bed choices out there, you are sure to find one that fits your family and your space. Some popular choices include beds with drawers, desks, and bookshelves. Even if you think you don’t need a bunkbed, you should consider one. Your child is inevitably going to want to have friends sleep over. It is also great to have an extra bed for visiting relatives or friends. If have an arm chair in your kid’s room, buy a storage ottoman to match. These ottomans are hollow and have removable lids for even more room storage.

    • Get Creative with Toy Storage. The days of the giant toy chest are gone. Not only do they take up a lot of space, but they are hard to find toys in. All the small pieces seem to get pushed to the bottom, never to be seen again. Try going vertical with your storage. A cube organizer can be a perfect storage solution and will maximize the space in your kid’s room. In the cube organizer, you can use colorful cloth bins to organize small pieces. Have a bin for toy cars, one for lego pieces, etc. For younger children, it’s helpful to print out and laminate a picture of what should go in the bin and attach it to the front. This will help the child to keep their space neater!

In addition to the cube organizer, you can use some other creative solutions. Use colorful fabric to create a stuffed animal hammock. Buy a clear shoe organizer and hang it over the back of the door. This will provide great storage for Barbie dolls, art supplies, action figures, and other small items. Hang hooks on the wall at a low level. These can hold dress up clothes, backpacks, and even coats.

    • Go Vertical. Consider buying an armoire or tall vertical shelf for more storage options. This uses less square footage, but maximizes the space you have. Using an armoire for clothing storage can free up a closet for toy storage. You can also maximize the unused corners in a room by purchasing a corner shelving unit. This will provide even more storage solutions.

    • Purchase a fun rug. There are several rug designs that will double as a great play space for kids. For boys, there are the classic "road" rugs made to run toy cars over. There are fun options like this for girls as well with princess and dollhouse themes. You can even purchase a rug made to look like a hopscotch course or other game.

There are many great ways to maximize the space in your kid’s room. With a little research and some savvy shopping, you can put together a room that both you and your child are sure to love!

  2. There are many ways that you can take to maximize storage space. I have used storage beds for the children which they can lift up easily to retrieve their toys and other belongings and also over-the-bed racks for easy access over an arm’s length. A bookshelf is another good furniture piece that is not only for books but for other toys and accessories as well.
